Iran’s president says country won’t surrender after Trump’s “annihilate” threat

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a rare wartime speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump said he could “annihilate” Iran.

In his speech, Pezeshkian held up a large photo of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and referred to the more than 150 child killed on the first day of the war.

“We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists,” Pezeshkian told the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations.

“Our innocent people have been the targets of cowardly attacks and aggression imposed upon our country. And we defended ourselves with utmost strength. America and Israel attacked us.”

He also said that Iran would not surrender and would continue to resist the war against the country. At the same time, he said Iran was ready for negotiations and diplomacy to end the conflict.

Pezeshkian, who is considered a moderate politician in Iran, arrived in New York under heavy security and scrutiny.
